MDOT FAR Compliance

Architectural and engineering firms are finding that they must have an audited overhead rate in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). A variety of factors have contributed to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) requiring CPA audits of indirect costs, including the economic downturn that reduced development projects and caused more firms to seek work from the government. Additionally, the issuance of the AASHTO Uniform Audit & Accounting Guide in September 2009 resulted in an increased focus on properly calculated and audited FAR overhead rates rather than the use of estimates by architecture or engineering firms and different rates in various states. Effective for all contracts active after July 1, MDOT is now requiring all Michigan engineering consultants that annually receive $500,000 or more in MDOT-related revenue net payments to have a CPA audit of indirect cost rates to ensure compliance with FAR...
