FinCEN extends FBAR relief to hurricane victims

The U.S. Department of Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced that victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria have additional time to file their Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR or Form 114) for 2016. The current extended due date is Oct. 15, 2017, but affected individuals now have until Jan. 31, 2018 to file.

This expanded relief is offered to areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FinCEN will work with any FBAR filer who lives outside the disaster area but whose records required to meet the deadline are located in an affected area regardless of where the filer resides. FBAR filers who live outside the disaster area seeking assistance in meeting their filing obligations are instructed to contact the FinCEN Resource Center at 800.767.2825 or frc@fincen.gov.
